- We booked this after seeing a flyer at our campsite. We wanted to do a winery tour, but driving a motorhome around cellar doors was not a good idea. We got on the following day's tour (fortunately for another couple who had also booked, but were on hold, as it's not viable to run it with only two customers. Adam, the guide and driver, was on time (10.00am) at our campsite for the pick-up in the minibus. Friendly and informative from the off, he was great in making all four of us welcome and involved in the day's programme. Having such a small group was particularly good. It enabled him to interact with, and answer questions from everyone. In the end, we visited three wineries. At each one we were presented with a good range of up to half a dozen wines. Just as well we weren't driving! Lunch was at one of the wineries, and consisted of traditional bushtucker food prepared and laid out on First Nation patterned tablecloths by Adam (among other things he is also a chef and cake-maker). He explained all of the ingredients (some of which we tasted individually). To add a personal touch, many of the ingredients were grown in his own garden. After the wineries, we went to a distillery (more delicious samples of spirits and liquers), finishing up at a brewery and cidery, sampling jugs of ales and ginger beer. There was no pressure to buy at any of the venues, but the produce was so good we all came away with a bottle or two. We were due to finish at a chocolate factory, but because we were so involved as a group with Adam, chatting away about everything, we ran out of time. However, we all felt that a further venue was not really necessary. One observation; at the first winery we visited, the manager told us that his would be best that day. Marketing hype? No, he was right, and perhaps we did not buy as much wine as we might have; the others didn't quite meet the standard of the first. Maybe leave that 'til later or last? All-in-all, a brilliant day (we got back at 5.00pm), which every one of us enjoyed, and the whole experience was enhanced by Adam, whose knowledge, enthusiasm, and tales really made the day. If you have a day in Marg, you must do this tour!Nick W.1 week ago
